Detroit MI Sept 272012 A Detroit teen will spend at least 12 to 30 years in prison inconnection with the May shooting death of an 84-year-old church security guardin Detroit.
Anthony Williams was sentenced today in Wayne County CircuitCourt in connection with the shooting death of guard Joseph Lewis Jr. May 9 ina Tireman parking lot a mile west of I-96. Williams, then 15, was ordered toserve 12 to 30 years on a second-degree murder charge, plus two years on afelony firearm offense.
Lewis, who worked security for a number of Detroit churches over the years, was watchingparishioners’ cars during Wednesday night Bible study at Victory Way AssemblyChurch of God in Christ when he was shot. Police said Williams and 18-year-oldAlandre Boone of Detroitapproached him. Investigators say a struggle ensued and a gun carried byBoone went off. Boone is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 2.
