Norfolk VA Oct 5 20122It looks like that another former TSA agent has been foundguilty of theft while on duty at a Virginiaairport.
John W. Irwin, 60, pleaded guilty to one count of grandlarceny of a passenger’s cash in a November 2011 incident at a checkpoint at Norfolk International Airport.
According to a statement of facts filed with the court, thepassenger advised Transportation Security Administration agents that he had amedical condition and needed to be patted down. The passenger then dropped $520cash and a pen into a gray plastic bin.
According to the statement, he was also selected foradditional screening in a private area. He complained about the screeningbefore agreeing to go with the agent.
Irwin placed the passenger's cash and pen into a TSAsupervisor's drawer. When the passenger returned from the additional screening,his property was gone, records state.
The passenger asked Irwin what happened to his money, andIrwin told him he had not seen it, records state. The passenger reported theincident to police.
Although Irwin initially denied to police any knowledge ofthe money he later told authorities that he had put the money in his locker. In a statement to police, Irwin wrote, "when thepassenger returned and I saw that it was the passenger who had given my fellowemployees a hard time. I just didn't let on that I had the money."
Irwin is scheduled to be sentenced in Circuit Court inDecember.
