Ticketmaster is almost on par with the RIAA. Let's analyze the tickets to the Roger Waters concert, at Darien Lake next Thursday. (I'd like to go, but you'll see why I can't afford it...)
Base ticket price: $131
Fuck you, Darien Lake.
"Convenience fee" for ordering online: $16.50
This is actually relatively low for a Ticketmaster convenience fee... they often climb to 50% of ticket price. And doesn't this save them money? They don't have to ship blank tickets and ticket printing equipment to the venues themselves.
"Order processing charge:" $4.85
They include this, presumably, so that they can pay the computers which process the order. Those darn computers will go on strike if they don't get paid!
Charge for having tickets e-mailed instead of will call (standard mail is not an option, only express shipping): $2.50.
What? I have to pay $2.50 to save them money on postage and printing costs? If you have actually done this, you'll also learn that the tickets you get sent have ADVERTISEMENTS on them. Also note the additional cost of paper and ink to print tickets yourself.
Total cost for one $131 ticket: $154.85
Other examples (although, these will seem cheap compared to Darien Lake):
2 Dream Theater tickets at UB (not student price)
Base price: $38.00 each; Total for 2: $90.90
2 Porcupine Tree tickets at the House of Blues Cleveland:
Base price: $23.00 each; Total for 2: $65.15
1 Rush ticket at Darien Lake:
Base price: $59.90; Total for 1: $74.50
