As I was doing the Sunday morning Wonderword puzzle from the newspaper (on a Monday), I discovered that it provides a fun demonstration of the brain's subconscious activity

Whenever I chose a word from the list to search for, I found that most of the time, the word was in the first place I happened to look in the puzzle.

Similarly, when I was scanning the puzzle, I often had words pop into my mind. Even if it was not readily apparent, I eventually found the word in those areas.

Another interesting phenomenon occurred when I encountered two open letters that were nagging me: IG. I could not readily find any words attached to it, so I scanned through the list to find any words with IG or GI. While I did not find any, "games" stuck out to me. Sure enough, when I went back I found "AMES" attached to the G.

While it's kind of dull to read about this, it was very cool to actually experience it. Give it a try!
